This month, Juxtapoz Projects brought our residency program to Superchief Gallery in Ridgewood NY. Our first round of artists, Kendra Yee and Ruohan Wang have been keeping busy, working on everything from illustration to painting to ceramics. Today, we’re taking a look inside their studio to see what they’ve been up to, in anticipation for their open studio event next week.

If you’re in the New York area, we invite you to come out and celebrate these two artists and their new collaborative mural, generously sponsored by Liquitex Artist Materials. Complimentary drinks will be served courtesy of PBR ART and both artists will be in attendance. Event Page HERE.

Kendra Yee (Toronto, Ontario) : Her work consists of mixed-media paintings, ceramic sculptures, and panel-based illustrations. Yee pulls tales from her personal history, lived experiences and collective memory to form speculative worlds where fluid characters come to life through the conversations of interactive bodies. The result is beautiful and personal and weird, with a strong emphasis on unexpected compositions.

Ruohan Wang (Berlin, Germany) : She dabbles in everything from printmaking to painting, graphic design to fashion. Originally born in Beijing, Wang now resides in Berlin, constantly experimenting with new mediums and ways to make art. Her illustrations vibrate with disruptive energy, yet their compositions and colorways seem neurotically strategic. It’s with this cool nonchalance that Ruohan Wang’s work has won the hearts of people all over, including ours.

Open studios will be held from 7—10pm on July 3rd, 2019 at Superchief Gallery NY (1628 Jefferson Ave. Ridgewood NY) LINK HERE.
