Massachusetts College of Art and Design is proud to present the 2019 MassArt MFA Thesis Exhibition at MASS MoCA. The exhibition, co-organized by MassArt Graduate Programs and Alexandra Foradas, curator at MASS MoCA, will showcase the work of thirteen graduate students in the final year of their respective Master of Fine Arts programs.
Featured artists include: Kamal Ahmad, Damon Campagna, Rachel Engel, Aishwarya Gathwala, Richard W.P. Huang, Jeffrey Nowlin, Robert Oliver, Edward Perkins, Corinne Planche, Chelsea Polk, Brett S. Poza, Dennis Svoronos, and Chenli Ye.
Visitors can expect diverse work in a variety of media. On view alongside Aishwarya Gathwala’s large-scale intimate photographs of family relationships are Dennis Svoronos’ kinetic sculptures, where DNA, brainwaves and algorithms meet in an investigation of our contemporary culture. Also on view is Jeffrey Nowlin’s collection of hand-sewn and woven assemblage sculptures exploring the deconstructed self, and an 8-part audio series that tells the story of artist and musician Chelsea Polk’s pilgrimage to 8 bogs.
The exhibition is on view from May 3 – May 19, 2019 at MASS MoCA (1040 MASS MoCA Way, North Adams, MA 01247), one of the largest centers for contemporary art in the United States. The museum is open Wednesday – Monday 11 am-5 pm (closed Tuesdays).
An opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 2-5 pm. RSVP here.
