Currently on view at Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco, California is artist Lucien Shapiro’s stunning solo exhibition, “OCULUS.”

Returning for his second solo exhibition with the gallery, this latest body of work continues the artist’s exploration of transformation through laborious craft and meditative consumption of time to create ornate, ritualistic objects.

Humble materials such as bottle caps, broken automotive glass and discarded plastic are transmuted into totemic figures and portals through the artist’s intricate practice. The sculptural objects created for “OCULUS” mix natural and cityscape materials obsessively collected from Shapiro’s travels ranging from Indonesian jungles to San Francisco streets. Organic crystals and wood forms interweave with “street diamonds” (broken auto glass), spikes and metal remnants to create armored vessels and abstract figures.

The exhibition will be on view until August 24th, 2019 and should be sought out if in the area.
