CJ Chandler is a South African artist and photographer. His series, “The Twist of a Knee”, offers a portrait of the town in which he was born and where his parents still live. Chandler describes how Makhanda—formerly known as Grahamstown and once a military outpost of the Cape Colony—now “ebbs and flows in cyclical mundanity”. The fragmented, sometimes seemingly disparate photographs come together to paint a visceral picture of place, allowing the viewer to see through Chandler’s eyes.
